Oracles

.The Oracles series was created during the COVID-19 lockdown in San Miguel de Allende, within the studio of master printmaker and collage artist Linda Soberman. In a period of isolation, working alone in a large, memory-filled space, the work became a process of introspection and a return to my essential practice

During this time, my engagement with printmaking deepened significantly. I worked continuously while simultaneously studying and learning tarot. Both practices—image-making and symbolism—merged organically, forming a visual language where material process and mysticism enter into dialogue.

The images began to arrive one after another, almost like a state of urgency and revelation, as if I were in a laboratory of visions; my hands could barely keep pace with their appearance.

The series begins with women later reinterpreted as modern-day oracles. Through this transformation, they become archetypal figures that echo the historical role of oracles in ancient kingdoms and empires.

Each tarot card inspired a specific female figure, resulting in a body of work in which every piece functions as an individual interpretation within a broader symbolic system.

The works are created using mixed media printmaking techniques, incorporating image transfer, oil pastels, and inks.

The Magician

In this version, the archetype is embodied through a woman whose hand releases a luminous eye, symbolizing perception made material. It speaks of the ability to channel inner vision into reality,

Contemporary artwork of a woman from whose hand a luminous eye emerges, reinterpreting The Magician as vision made material and active intuition.

High Priestess

Centered on expanded and internal perception. The figure covers her eyes while a third eye emerges on the forehead, accompanied by multiple externalized eyes formed from her hands like the pillars of the original card. The work constructs vision as a layered system of intuition and awareness, where perception is fragmented, multiplied, and internalized beyond physical sight.

The Empress

A dual composition of feminine archetypes reconfigured through a symbolic visual language. One figure, with crossed arms, is crowned by a floral eye, merging fertility, perception, and embodied femininity as a unified organism of vision and presence. The second figure emerges through an open hand containing a central eye, transforming gesture into a site of perception and expanded awareness. Together, the work constructs vision as both internal bloom and external instrument, where the body becomes a vessel for seeing and being seen.

The Magician

A contemporary reinterpretation of the Rider-Waite Magician as a system of transmission between sky and earth. A woman’s face appears within the structure, oriented toward a distant horizon, while an all-seeing eye hovers above her, expanding perception beyond the individual. The work reframes manifestation as a mediated alignment between body, cosmos, and expanded vision.

The Star

A contemporary reinterpretation of ecstatic feminine embodiment, where vision emerges as an embodied force. A woman appears in a state of exaltation as a luminous eye erupts from her chest, surrounded by a golden vortex of light. Fragmented ritual letters accompany the composition, suggesting language as invocation.
